Progress through a test on Test Gen 7.4

I have recently started a class that requires all of my test taking to take place at home using my computer and testgen.

I have the plug-in installed and the test page shows up using Firefox 3.0.5.
I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11
The plug-in test page shows the sample image.

I have tried two different tests posted to CourseCompass with similar results in both cases.
The test loads fine and questions can be answered. However, as the clock continues to count down, the test will take upwards of a full minute to progress to the next question. With a 30 minute test and 20 questions to answers this may mean that I never get to see the entirety of the test before time is up.

Hope you can help. Thanks.

Tom

TestGen Forums:

Update:

I am the OP. It seems that I do not run into this problem when I download a random ".tst" file. I was able to navigate freely using firefox 3.0.

Could be course compass? could be Platform compatability (i.e., test was generated on Windows?)
Could be a previous version of testgen was used to create the test?

We have not seen this behavior before, so we'll need to work together to resolve your issue as fast as possible.

Since the entire test is loaded into the plug-in at the start of the test, I am pretty sure we can rule out CourseCompass being the problem. TestGen tests are cross-platform so it isn't a (known) platform issue. This means it is either the test data, or something on your machine. Some questions:

  1. What version of the TestGen Plug-in are you running?
  2. Do you know if other classmates are having similar issues?
  3. Have you tried Safari (make sure to run the plug-in under Rosetta)? Behavior?
  4. Are you running any other applications or browser windows while taking the test?
  5. What type of test is it? Math, non-math, type of math, etc?
  6. What type of Mac (model and speed) are you using? (eg: PowerMac G4/500.)
  7. How much RAM do you have? (Click the blue apple icon in the top-left and select "about this mac".)
  8. How much disk space do you have left on your hard drive? (Select hard drive and hit CMD-i)

Jeff

1. Testgen 7.4
2. I don't know.
3. Safari 3.0 did not display the image on the Testgen test page. I no longer have 2.0. I also have NetScape 7.0, but have not tried it yet (see below)
4. As far as I remember, no.
5. Non-math, multiple choice.
6. Powermac G4/1.5 GHz
7. 512MB RAM
8. 4.1 GB

Rosetta should not be an issue as this is a Power PC.
I was surprised to see that a .tst file downloaded onto my machine worked perfectly (though it was only a demo). This was in Firefox. I'd love to try the test again I'm not able to until my instructor unlocks it so I can troubleshoot.
That is unless you can provide a link to a troubleshoot test example.

Thanks.

Well, I don't know what the issue had been but it seems to be resolved. It was persistent though and may be something to keep an eye out for.

Now, how about we do something to fix that 9 point font in CourseCompass.

Thanks for your help.

T

Glad to hear it was resolved.

If it does show up again let us know. If needed later, I have placed a sample TestGen plug-in test on our web site to help you exercise the plug-in:

Sample TestGen Plug-in Test

This should help narrow the issue down to either your CMS or your plugin/machine setup. Hope that helps.

Is the 9 point font in the CourseCompass web page or in the TestGen test questions?
