TestGen Plugin silent install

I would like to silently push out the TestGen Plugin 7.4. What would be the correct command line switches to silently install and install the active x control for Internet Explorer/Windows XP SP3.

TestGen Forums:

Unfortunately we do not have a silent install option built into the plug-in at this time. However, it's still possible to automate installs.

Typically, on Windows, admins write an auto-mater with Autoit to script the process (I've heard it's possible with MSI as well). On the Mac side they use Remote access or a combination of Telnet/SSH and the install command line tool.

Very disappointing. It would great if you could provide an installer with a silent install option in the future.

This is SOOOOOOOO 1997.

You've got that right. Telling me to automate the install with a third partybscripting language is not a solution. How hard can it be to give us an msi file or at least add some command line switches to the installer?

Hi,

Iowa Health Systems (IHS) will soon be upgrading from Windows XP32bit to Windows 7
Enterprise 64Bit OSs and we have a few questions that will assist
us in knowing if Tamarack TestGen [7] would be compatible with our role
out.

- Is the current version mentioned above compatible with Windows7?

- Are they compatible with Internet Explorer 8?

- Are they compatible with Office 2010?

- What versions are compatible with Windows7 OS?

- If no version is compatible/supported on Windows7, when will a supported version be available?

- Does the applications require Java?

- How can IHS gain access to Windows7 supported versions and vendor install documentation?

- Is the Windows7 version compatible with Windows XP?

- Cost to upgrade to the Windows7 supported version?

- Are these applications Citrix supported?

Thanks,
Jimmie Walker

Hello Jimmie,

Current versions of the TestGen application and plugin are compatible with Windows7 and Windows XP as well as Internet Explorer 8. The documents created can be exported to RTF which can be read by Office 2010.

Assuming that you are a Pearson customer, then the most recent version that Pearson is currently distributing for the Windows desktop application is 7.4.5, and the most recent version of the Windows plugin is currently 7.4. I do not see a reason to run an older version. Upgrades through Pearson are free. Since version 5.5 the Windows TestGen application has allowed upgrades by going to the Help Menu and choosing Check for Updates. Pearson distributes manuals that are the equivalent of the online help which contains installation instructions. You could also get links to knowledge base articles from Pearson support regarding installation and set up.

If you are not a Pearson customer, then a clearer understanding of what you want to do with TestGen would be helpful. For example you might be planning to use the TestGen application to create your own items and you may plan to administer those questions by paper exams, or you may plan to use a course management system for testing.

We have no known issues regarding Citrix, but you would have to try this and let us know if there is an issue.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions.

Jeff
