Print multiple versions to PDF

I want to generate 4 versions of the exam, answer keys, and a correlation sheet. And I want to "print" them to a PDF file so I can post answer keys to my course website, post old exams on occasion, etc. also want to be able to re-print the correlation sheet or send it to my UTAs as an email attachment. Right now, when I print to file, I only get the first version to save as a PDF while the other 3 go to a printer.

Unfortunately, it's a bug

In general, you can install a free PDF print driver (CUPS-PDF), set it as the default printer, then print your test. All your versions and correlation will be generated as PDFs. Note: We tested this process on Mac OS 10.6.6/TestGen 7.4.5. It should work with other versions of Mac OS, though some dialogs may be slightly different.

Here's the 6 steps to PDF bliss (verbose steps in bullets if you need it):

  1. Download and uncompress the "CUPS-PDF 2.5.0 Installer.zip":
  2. Double-click the "CUPS-PDF" package to install:
    • Install both CUPS-PDF and the Generic Postscript Printer.
  3. Add the new PDF printer to your printer list as a default printer:
    • Open "System Preferences..." and choose "Print & Fax".
    • Click the "+" below the list of printers to open the "Printer Browser".
    • CUPS-PDF should appear in the list. (If not, make sure the "Default Browser" tab is selected in the list.)
    • Select CUPS-PDF and make sure "Print Using" is set to "Generic Postscript Driver". Click "Add".
    • You should be back in the "Print & Fax" dialog. Click the drop-down list next to "Default printer" and choose "CUPS-PDF".
    • Close the dialog to save your changes.
  4. Print your TestGen test.
    • When you get the final print dialog "CUPS-PDF" should automatically appear as the printer destination. If not, go back to step 3 and check your settings.
  5. Get your files.
    • CUPS-PDF sticks files in "Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/CUPS-PDF/username".
    • You can make an alias to this folder, rename it to something like "TestGen PDF's" and drag it to your desktop for quick access next time.
  6. Revert back to your preferred default printer.
    • Once you are happy with your PDF's, you may want to go back to the "Print & Fax" preference and set your default printer back to your favorite printer.

Next time you want to generate PDFs with TestGen you just need to go back to the "Print & Fax" preferences and set CUPS-PDF as the default printer (until we release a new version with the fix in it).
