LAN issue

We are having intermittent problems with Quizmaster losing results if a temporary glitch occurs in the LAN. For example, if a student is undertaking a test and such a glitch occurs Quizmaster crashes and the student results are lost. The student needs to redo the test again. The results stored on the database show the student as having answered nill questions.
This is very frustrating for both student and staff and severley detracts from the reliability of the system. I assume in the design of this programme the results are stored in a temporary file on the testing computer and transferred to the database on test completion. We are using version 7, I note there is a newer version 7.5, are there any differences between the two versions that would overcome this problem? An LMS system we use has no such issues, it is a shame as otherwise it is a great programme.

Do you know if there is a similar product that is available for purchase? This issue, although only occuring occasionaly, causes sufficient angst that we need to consider other options.

Regards,
Kevin.

TestGen Forums:

Hello Kevin,

I apologize for the difficulties with QuizMaster. Yes, unfortunately QuizMaster saves the test answers in memory and sends them at the end of the test. If there is a "glitch" on the network then data can be lost. If you are using Vista machines on the network, you need to make sure they are updated to the latest service pack since there is a bug in SP1 that would cause loss of data issues with QuizMaster. Version 7.5 does not improve this situation.

Unfortunately, Pearson stopped distributing and supporting QuizMaster several years ago so development has stopped for now on future releases of QuizMaster. They've replaced it with other products. You might contact them to see if they have an alternative that will work for you.
