Install The TestGen Plug-in into Chrome (Windows)

At the time of this post, the TestGen Plug-in installer doesn't provide the option to install into Chrome. This is because the plug-in has not yet been thoroughly tested with Chrome.

However, cursory tests show that Chrome and the plug-in should be compatible. So, if you would like to "push ahead" and install the plug-in into Chrome you may do so one of two ways:

METHOD 1
Chrome and Firefox share plug-ins. If you install the Plug-in into Firefox, Chrome will pick it up. Note: you must keep Firefox installed for this to work.

  1. Install Firefox.
  2. Install the TestGen plug-in into Firefox.
  3. At the end of the installation a test URL will launch to verify that the plug-in works in Firefox. Copy this URL.
  4. Launch Chrome.
  5. Paste the copied URL into the browser address field and see if the plug-in verifies.

METHOD 2
Install the plug-in into Firefox or IE, and then manually copy the plug-in files to Chrome.

  1. Install the TestGen plug-in into Firefox (IE will work too).
  2. Open up Firefox's "plugins" folder. Typically this is at, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins.
  3. Right-click on the Chrome shortcut on your desktop (or in start menu) and view "Properties".
  4. Click "Find Target" to open the location that Chrome was installed in to.
  5. If there isn't already a "plugins" folder in Chrome's directory go ahead and create it.
  6. Copy the following files from Firefox's plugins folder into Chrome's plugins folder:
  7. npTGEQhelp.html
    npTGEQPlugin.dat
    nptgeqplugin.dll
    testgenbd.otf
    testgenbdit.otf
    testgenit.otf
    testgenrg.otf

  8. Uninstall Firefox if desired.
  9. Go to the Testgen Plug-in Test Page in chrome:

Thanks! This worked perfectly.

Will you have this available for Chrome for Mac soon? I use Chrome and I'd really like to be able to use TestGen in it.

Disregard that. It just required a restart of Chrome for it to work on Mac OS X. :) It "just works."

Sorry to post once again. I said it DID "just work" on Chrome in Mac OS X. But, if you so much as click on the area with the plugin active running on the test page, the plugin crashes. :(

Thanks for letting us know about the problem Cavin. We have reproduced the problem and are looking into it. I'll get back to you with more information after we have done some debugging.

Jeff

It worked with chrome, thanks. Like one of the guys replied, after you do the copying process, you have to close the chrome browser and restart it.
