To install the TestGen program and testbank questions, insert the TestGen CD and double-click the CD icon if the CD does not open automatically. You may also be able to download the TestGen installer program from your publisher's web site. Run the Windows or Macintosh installer and follow the steps on-screen to perform the Typical (Windows) or Standard Install (Macintosh).
During installation, the TestGen program is installed in the system-approved programs or applications folder. All TestGen preferences are stored in the system-approved (Windows or Mac) preferences folder, and all TestGen testbanks (.bok) and tests (.tst) are stored in the system-approved user documents folder.
The TestGen application starts automatically at the end of a Typical (or Standard) install or a Custom install of the TestGen program. On Windows computers, the TestGen installer creates shortcuts for the TestGen program and the Tests folder on your desktop. To restart TestGen later, double-click its desktop shortcut.
Click the Windows Start menu and select Programs or All Programs.
Select the TestGen program file to start the application.
Open the TestGen folder (usually found in the Applications folder)
Double-click the TestGen application icon to start the program.
If a testbank is provided along with the TestGen application, it will be installed automatically and you will see the testbank listed in the Testbank Library. In addition, you can use the "Locate Testbanks" option on the File menu to search your computer and list the names of additional testbanks in the Testbank Library, so that you can view questions and choose items for tests.
Most often, if you obtain a copy of TestGen on a CD or DVD, it will also include a copy of a testbank. If you already have the TestGen application installed and need to install just the new testbank, you can either run the TestGen installer and choose Custom install to install just the testbank, or you can copy the testbank file directly from the CD's Resources/Testbanks folder to your computer. Note that testbank files have a .bok extension and may be named with a short abbreviation for the book title, edition and author, such as alg3m.bok or psy3g.bok.
Note: You cannot work with the testbank file while it is on the CD, where it is a "read-only" file.
