TestGen Plug-in Test Page
To confirm successful installation of the TestGen Plug-in, check for the display
of a test box below. The test box contents should appear here:
- If you see a test box above (its contents should be similar to this
image), then the TestGen Plug-in installed successfully on your
computer.
- If not, print this page and refer to the troubleshooting table below.
Important installation notes
- The graphic at the top of this
test page displays the version of the TestGen Plug-in that is installed on
your machine. Check with your instructor on the correct version to use for your course. In addition, be sure you are using the correct version for your operating
system.
- Windows 98 and Mac 9.2.2:
use TestGen Plug-in 3.x
- All other operating systems:
use TestGen Plug-in 6.0 or 7.0.
If you cannot view the test
box graphic, then a problem has occurred during installation.
- The lower portion of the graphic
displays a character from the TestGen font. If you cannot see this character
or the character that is displayed does not match the description, then a
problem has occurred during installation.
Look in the test box above to determine which version
of the TestGen Plug-in you have installed, then click the appropriate link below

Configure IE browser settings
If you are using Internet Explorer, you may have to modify your browser settings
to allow cookies (information that a website stores on your hard disk so
that it can remember something about you at a later time).
To configure Internet Explorer browser settings:
- Select Internet Options from the Internet Explorer Tools menu.
- On the Security tab, select Custom Level. Select Enable

- Locate your browser's Plugins folder and see
if it contains the TestGen Plug-in files listed below. For Windows users,
the Plugins folder is typically located at C:\Program Files\<browser_name>\Plugins.

| Windows |

Important If you have
more than one browser or different versions of the same browser installed
on your computer, be sure you install the TestGen Plug-in to the Plugins
folder for the browser you will be using to view the Test Page.
- If all the necessary files are listed in the Plugins folder (of the browser
you are using), and you still do not see the headings in the box above, then
reinstall the TestGen Plug-in.
Cannot view corresponding symbols
If you see the correct headings and
text in the box above, but the three symbol characters in the Font Tests
section do not match their description, ensure that the .ttf files (Windows)
or the .suit files (Macintosh) exist in your computer's Fonts folder. You can
see a list of these fonts in the TestGen Plug-in files
table.
Note The
TestGen installation process installs two copies of TestGen fonts on your computer,
one in the browser's Plugins folder, and one in the Fonts folder.
- If the font files are not in the
Fonts folder, then reinstall TestGen.
- If the font files are in the Fonts
folder and you cannot see the contents in the box above accurately, then delete
the font files (.ttf or .suit files), and reinstall TestGen.
Adjust Macintosh memory settings
If you are using a Macintosh computer
with Netscape and receive a memory error, you need to manually adjust the memory
settings for your operating system to prevent insufficient memory errors when
using the browser.
To adjust the memory settings:
- Quit your browser.
- Locate the application on your
hard disk. From the File menu, choose Find and enter the name
of the application (Netscape, for example).
- Click once on the application
icon for your browser to select it.
- From the File menu, choose
Get Info then Memory.
In the Memory Requirements section,
you will see settings for:
- Suggested size
- Minimum size
- Preferred size
- Increase the Preferred memory
size by 25-30%.
The Preferred size specifies the amount
of memory your browser sets aside for its use. Depending on the amount of RAM
on your computer, you may need to increase the size by more than 25-30%. Contact
your local IT person if you need assistance increasing the memory size.
Note To prevent your browser from locking up or crashing, in addition to
increasing the Preferred memory size, you should also quit any other applications
that you have open while using your browser.
TestGen
Plug-in 6.x and 7.x Troubleshooting Tips
- Check that all files were installed.
Locate your browser's Plugins folder and see if it contains the TestGen Plug-in
files listed below. For Windows users, the Plugins folder is typically located
at C:\Program Files\<browser_name>\Plugins. For Mac users, the Plugins
folder is typically located at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. TestGen Plug-in
files are the same on all platforms.

Note If you have an earlier version of the TestGen Plug-in installed
on your computer, you may see additional files with an extension of .ttf or
.suit in the Plugins folder. These files are TestGen font files that were used
by previous versions of the program—do not delete them.
The TestGen Plug-in installation
also installs the four font files (*.otf files) in the Fonts folder for your
operating system. Check to see if these files were installed.
If any of these files are missing,
re-install the TestGen Plug-in. Check the files again.
